Roomy house within the walls of a lively and historic village 45 minutes from Perpignan. The house is newly refurbished and the courtyard garden is surrounded by the original ramparts. The village has many authentic restaurants and shops selling local goods. Fort Libera, built by Vauban stands above the village and can be visited daily and you can discover the history of the village by walking the ramparts. There is so much to discover in the area. Many beaches are within a 45 minute drive including Argeles Sur Mer which is a beautiful long stretch of beach with a lively atmosphere. There is a swimming lake and man made beach only 15 minutes from the house at Vinca and this runs children's activities during the summer. Lovely outside swimming pools with small water slide are only a 5 minute drive away at Vernet Les Bains which is nestled in the foothills of the sacred Canigou moutain. There are hundreds of walks to do at varying difficulty levels. You can walk to the peak of the Canigou mountain, to the beautiful Abbaye Saint Martin du Canigou or the Gorges de Caranca. To top it off, you can also arrive at several large ski resorts within 45 minutes, including Les Angles and rest your aching limbs at Thomas Les Bains, a natural thermal spring.

Summary: This spacious house with wonderful a walled terrace garden at the back is located inside the walled village/fortress of Villefranche de Conflent. It is a great place to stay, both to visit the village and the area around it. There is loads to do in the area, in addition to looking around Villefranche. Our other tips would be to go on the Little Yellow Train, visit the Grottes des Canalettes, & walk up to the viewpoint above the Abbaye Saint-Martin du Canigou - go in the morning before it gets too hot. The bar in the square by the church is a good place to grab a drink in the evening when it is cooler. You don't absolutely need a car, the local buses are €1 per ride and go frequently enough if you plan ahead.
